Here is my first chapter in my Super Strike novel, Relic. There are some differences between this and the comic form. The Gryphons are now called Ryphons and Rita is now Reeta. A more alien looking name but the same name none the less.

Click on the bottom corner of the pages to turn them. Enjoy.

Chapter 2 will be coming soon.

Looks good so far!  I like how you can slow down the pacing in this written format to allow for more information to be given to the reader.  The illustrations look great too!

Thanks! I'm enjoying the slower process too. It make my story feel more real to me. When I read it I can really imagine it actually happening. I'm really liking the illustrations.

I know how that is--I've been typing in a story that I stopped working on when I started up 'Maelstrom'; I'm fifty pages in and it already feels like a real place. :D

Wow!  I'm loving these illustrations!  The grayscale gives them an old fashioned feel, like a storybook, but your drawing and shading style feels very comic book/graphic novel.  I'm loving the marriage between the two!  I also love the little sillouettes at the bottom of a couple of the pages.  Perfect to add another image without taking up too much space.

It will be so interesting to see how this all plays out!

Aw thanks! I'm really happy with it thus far. I think I'm going to enjoy making this book. :D

What do you think of the differences between this version and the comic one?

There are pros and cons to both, I think.  I really like the conversation that occurs between Kervak and Rita here, it gives us more insight into both of them, and more questions about Rita's past.  I also like that you can build up a bit of backstory in the written form, that you really can't do too much in a comic.  Your manor of illustrating is very interesting and compelling.  I really am loving those silhouettes and the art is even more realistic here than your latest comics.

However I must say that I just LOVE your comic pages. You were so good at coloring them to give a feel of the environment and the mood.  The change of expression from panel to panel was superb and your action sequences hit hard.  I just love the comics soooo much.

Now....this is ENTIRELY personal opinion:  While I do love these black and white illustrations, and they set an interesting mood for the entire book, I think color...at least on the larger illustrations, would look even more amazing.  There are some feelings and moods that colors evoke that are much harder to accomplish in black and white.  Like your bright pink lazers, that fun blue of Kervak's fur and the glow of her eyes, that dry, dusty yellowish brown of the desert that makes you thirsty.  I think color, while most of your narrative is written now, would keep that livliness that was there in the comic.  (but don't by any means lose those lovely black sillouettes!!  Did I mention I love those?  ;) )

Awesome! I can't wait for Chapter too! It's going to be cool. Also there are so many things I want to get to in this story! AHHH!

I think color will be a good idea. I am going for a more mature looking book but you are right about the emotion you can get in color. I'm also missing drawing comic pages now. I think I'll be doing some other comics here soon in addition to Super Strike.

If you did color, it might be good to have it in this style so if you ever print this, you can remove the color and make printing less expensive.
I like the little black figures too. I like to use them in scene breaks, but since I don't have the time, I use the same one for every break.

True. I'll think about it. Black and white does make it feel more adult.

Wow!:wow: Just by looking at the first inside page with the Gorqua, I'm impressed!:D I'll read this as I have the time. And motivation, as I'm a slow reader. I've already thumbed through though and seen the other illustrations. Yeeee, this is so cool!:D

As a random side note, I recognize you've used the Times New Roman font. One of my favorites.=p

Oh and to boost your motivation to read it this chapter is quite a bit different than the comic form of the story.

I think that is one of the coolest fonts for books. :D

Oh awesome! I'm sure the book format has a lot of different tings to offer then comic form. But I'm curious to see what all you changed.:D

It is! It's one of the best. Though I do have a few minor qualms with some of the shapes it makes for some of the letters, but, no font is perfect.;p

You need to have flash. Is the cover showing up? If so click in the bottom righthand corner and the pages should turn.

Yeah, it just feels really off since it's been Rita and Gryphon for so long the change is kind of sudden

There is a reason why. The book holds a much more serious and realistic view of the Super Strike universe. Also it takes place in a completely fictional universe so the name Gryphon wouldn't exist there. Also an alien wouldn't be named Rita. That is a very human sounding name so I thought changing the spelling would help without causing to much confusion.

I'm also rewriting the first two books into novels too. So when they are complete the entire series will be concise.

The presentation of the illustrations is what stands out to me. Their placement and style are very visually pleasing. The layout is great. In fact, now that I see it, I much prefer it to a comic.

Interesting, pal! There were some typos, but overall it's good so far. I could picture the events in my mind as I read. I do that a lot when I read, but still.
So the SS10 team in general is wanted? Now I'm wondering how that will turn out.
Now that I think about it, perhaps I'll make up a bounty hunter character.

Can you name the typos? I know Rita is now spelled Reeta and Kervak speaks with her accent.
I glad you can imagine it! I'm so happy that my descriptions are coming across well.
Oh. A bounty hunter would be cool.

'Circler' where I assume 'circular' was meant, that comes to mind. I forget where it was, though, somewhere shortly after Kervak boarded the Coalition. And I've forgotten the others, aside from her steed's spelling apparently changing between appearances.
At least you haven't forgotten entire words like I have. ;p
